Modern Teaching Strategies

Modern teaching strategies promote an active learning, collaboration between the students, and their advantages allow realization of multiple social interactions, development of the cognitive, social, communicational and interpersonal intelligence competencies. In the same time, the types of strategies favor improvement of the quality of education, optimal transfer of knowledge, confrontation of ideas, comparison of the ways of learning, stimulating the taking on of individual responsibilities, students’ autonomy, critical thinking and positive attitude towards learning act. Therefore, it is important to select a teaching strategy that addresses the needs of diverse students at different learning levels.

Each student is a unique individual, different in cognitive and affective development, social maturity, ability, motivation, aspiration, learning styles, needs, interests and potential. Apart from this, there are other factors underlying student differences. These include innate differences in intelligence, differences in social and economic background, variations in past learning experiences, and perhaps variations in the level of congruence between the learner and the curriculum. In view of these factors, catering for individual differences is intended neither to narrow the gap between individuals nor to even out their abilities and performance. It should aim for understanding why students are able or unable to learn well and finding appropriate ways to help them learn better; hence, applying proper teaching strategies.

In Dar Al Uloom Schools, different types of learning are applied in the classroom in different stages of education to achieve our educational objectives, enhance students’ motivation according to their different learning needs, and to give an equal educational opportunity for all students at the same time.

We believe that an effective teaching strategy engages students in the learning process and helps them develop critical thinking skills to increase their learning abilities.

  • One of these strategies is the ‘Differentiated Instruction’ method; Differentiating instruction may mean teaching the same material to all students using a variety of instructional strategies, or it may require the teacher to deliver lessons at varying levels of difficulty based on the ability of each student. This strategy aims at teaching all students taking into consideration their individual characteristics, previous experiences, different needs, background information, readiness to learn, linguistic skills, attitudes, and preferred patterns of learning.
  • There are hundreds of other Teaching Strategies, such as: the ‘Role Play Strategy, research and discovery strategy, collaborative education Strategy, problem solving strategy, and Developing Critical Thinking in Students.
  • There are also the strategies of Brainstorming, Cooperative Learning using group work, discussions, games, puzzles, concept maps, science fiction, the Hot Seat Teaching Strategy, story strategy, induction, learning workshops, discovery, exit cards, numbered heads, role playing, sorting concepts, practical and reciprocal presentations, competitions, research, expressing views, discussion, fantasizing strategy, team work and collaborative learning. In Dar Al Uloom schools, many of these teaching strategies are used in classroom in different educational stages to help students achieve scientific excellence and to teach them social responsibility towards themselves and their community.

We seek to adopt the latest education systems and to take into account that the individual abilities of the students are various. Therefore, we attempt developing these abilities, paying attention to the differences in their learning skills from one stage to the other.

Towards that end, Dar Al Uloom Schools implement the most effective modern teaching strategies in instruction of the Curricula for the different educational stages, including self-learning and collaborative learning strategies, to increase students’ motivation and to enable them to learn on their own relying on their own abilities.

Dar Al Uloom Schools achieve this vision through managing the educational process in a manner that the students feel engaged in the educational tasks, which were accustomed to their needs, their own abilities and their different levels of background knowledge and cognitive abilities. We seek to take into account the individual differences and characteristics of students, previous experiences and their educational needs, aptitudes, and abilities.

Self-learning methods focus on students in the teaching and the learning process. Dar Al Uloom schools staff use modern programs designed for this purpose. The educational materials available in Dar Al Uloom are accustomed to individual abilities and skills of the students in order to achieve the desired educational goals.

In addition, we seek to achieve a series of behavioral goals and thus we use a set of learning activities that enhance students’ acquisition of indirect experiences or alternative experiences in addition to the learning resources needed by the student

based on these strategies, the teachers have an important role to play in facilitating learning process through using the devised methods and plans to reach the educational goals set. On other words, both the teacher and the student have roles to play for making the learning process easier, faster, more fun and effective. We aspire to encourage our students to self-learn and to employ what they learned in different life situations to achieve a better teaching equation and to create an educated generation.

Teaching and learning in our schools are assisted by a number of computer applications that encourage self-learning. Some of these programs include, exercise and practice, educational programs, games programs, simulation programs, problem solving programs, interactive video, and exploratory learning based on the idea of scientific research to provide students with the skills and the terms of scientific inquiry.

Learning Packages form an integrated educational system designed in a systematic way to help the students learn effectively. This includes a set of interrelated educational materials with multiple goals, including various educational activities which enable the student to achieve perfectly specific objectives of educational subjects.
